The Arabic, Persian and Urdu Inscriptions of Central India–A Topographical List is an uptodate record furnishing particulars and contents of epigraphical material available in these languages which has come to light through various publications. Despite the availability of historical literature, no student of medieval Indian history can afford to ignore this primary contemporary source so important for local, provincial and central history of medieval India. The list is accompanied by exhaustive indexes facilitating reference and rendering the task of researchers easy and labour-saving.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Syed Abdur Rahim
Dr. S.A. Rahim (born 1932) holder of Master’s degrees in Arabic, Persian and Urdu and of doctorate in Persian, began his academic career as Epigraphical assistant in the Perso-Arabic epigraphy branch of the Archaeological Survey of India. Later, he served Nagpur Mahavidyalaya and retired as Director, Vasant Rao Naik Institute of Arts & Social Sciences, Nagpur. Dr. S.A. Rahim has authored about half a dozen scholarly works in Urdu and contributed more than fifty articles on Perso-Arabic inscriptions, history, coins and literature, particularly of the Berar region of Central India. In recognition of his academic contribution, he has been honoured by President of India’s award for Persian scholars, 1999.
