Ladakh, a region isolated for centuries, has unique, exclusive and rich cultural base. This book provides a comprehensive account of the architectural heritage of this unparalleled landscape. It is meant not only for architects or conservation professionals but also for the local people and visitors in the region who should also be aware of the living heritage of the region. It is part of INTACH’S objective to identity heritage buildings throughout the country under its National Register programme. The book highlights the fact that the entire region is reeling under tremendous pressure of development thus eroding its vast reservoir of cultural heritage. Ladakh is now vulnerable to external influences which have wrought havoc on its sequestered culture therefore Ladakhi people should work more towards the safe upkeep of their cultural resources.
