Benchmarking is all about willingness to learn from others. It means comparing yourself with the major players, determining ‘best practice’ and setting targets for performance. While it can focus on corporate strategies and lead to re-engineering, similar techniques are equally applicable to shift rotas and absence rates. In this powerful new book, the acclaimed author of Practical Manpower Planning and Human Resource Planning offers people managers concrete practical help with: setting up teams and gaining management support; highlighting your organisation’s essential processes and performance drivers; deciding what to benchmark and how deep you need to go; using simple ratios to pinpoint your position and track progress; starting with pilot projects and bringing in consultants; finding the best sources of information, networking and gathering data; overcoming common benchmarking problems; adopting these methods within HR departments.
