The publication presents studies by noted scholars on the history of India from the early Harappan times to the present day. With reference to research and findings in archaeology, epigraphy, literature, numismatics, iconography and ethnography, the studies discuss evolution of proto-historic and later historical settlements, role of gender, class and caste in agricultural production in early North India, Ashoka’s Dhamma, the cult of stupa architecture, monetary exchange under the Imperial Pratiharas, origin of Chauhan dynasty of South Kosala and fairs and festivals of tribes of Orissa.
