The present work is a timely response to both scholarly and popular interest in the profile and performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the wake of its phenomenal growth in the contemporary Indian political scene. It makes an indepth analysis of the genesis, nature and working of the Bharatiya Janata Party in particular and Indian political parties in general. By making perfect use of ethno-religious, political and to some extent nationalist policies and techniques, the BJP has already occupied the centre stage of Indian politics heralding the decline of Congress as well as the Indian model of "One party dominance system". In terms of a strong and expanded organisational structure, pragmatic and dynamic leadership and electoral success in recent years, the BJP has moved from a cadre-base party to a cadre-base mass party.
