Folk art is the visual representation of folk culture and folk customs. As literature is the mirror of society, so is art the manifestation of its culture. Religious beliefs, myths, symbols and traditions, when reflected in the art of a society, suggest the depth of culture of that society. The documentation of such art is not only significant for preservation of our heritage, but also important from anthropological point of view for understanding of human values.

This introductory monograph examines the folk arts of Bhojpuri Saryupareen Panktipavan Brahmins of Shakhanchal, the northern part of Eastern Utter Pradesh. These arts are related to various festivals and auspicious  occasions.

This community is a prestigious community of Shakhanchal since centuries and known as an offshoot of Saryupareen Brahmins. Now this community and its rich art opulence are on a scarp of disappearing process.

The selected art patterns are floor patterns, fresco, sacred thread work and stencilling. These arts are listed in the established list of sixty-four arts since ancient period.

This research material will be a collected authentic information for new generation and a cultural heritage for coming generations.
