The advanced field of library and information science deals with the overall management of libraries and information centres of various kinds of various disciplines. The library and information science personnel are now more competitive with the western world with their upgraded qualifications. The growth of literature in the field of library and information science research is growing at a faster rate. The research contribution of Indian library and information science personnel for the last few decades is enormous. This research literature is multidisciplinary in nature. This book explores bibliometric investigations to identify the patterns of publication, authorship, citations and/or secondary journal coverage in the hope that such regularities can give an insight into the dynamics of the area under consideration. This consequently leads to a better organisation of literature. Bibliometric investigation includes statistics, operations research, bibliometric distribution and laws, citation analysis, circulation theory, information theory and theoretical aspects of information retrieval, explicitly presented in this book. It has practical applications in library management or in measuring the quality of journals. Bibliometric research has developed a body of theoretical knowledge and a group of techniques and applications based on the distribution of bibliographic data elements. The wider application of bibliometric techniques is leading to the development of new and more precise techniques for greater economical and efficient management of the material and the bibliometric studies are carried out on well established subject areas. The book presents bibliometric investigation to analyse the Indian contributions in the field of library and information science in the form of periodical literature. The implied objective is to develop a brief profile of the multidisciplinary subjects, as emerging from the country.
