The progress in disease resistance has been fascinatingly impressive in the last decade but at the expense of several authentic gaps in our understanding. The author has spared no pains to consult each and every paper on disease resistance and he has attempted to integrate the factual data within a conceptual frame work. Most of the data has been presented in tabular form. The nomenclature of fungi and bacteria is based on G.C. Ainsworth and J.R. Bisby ‘A dictionary of fungi’.
