ABOUT THE AUTHOR Devashish Kar

Dr. Devashish Kar is Professor, Dept. of Life Science, Assam University, Silchar. He is one of the pioneer researchers in the Barak valley region of Assam in the field of Wetlands, Rivers, Fisheries and Aquaculture. After graduating from G.C. College, Silchar, he had completed his Master’s Programme from University of Gauhati with specialization in Fisheries Science and Aquaculture. He was awarded Ph.D. by the University of Gauhati for his outstanding work in the ‘Beel’ (wetlands) fishery of Assam. Dr. Kar had been awarded with the prestigious Biotechnology National Associateship (BNA) by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India (GOI), for his pioneering researches in the field of Fish Disease Research. As Convener, Dr. Kar has organized a number of National Symposia and Workshops, in the field of Wetlands, Fisheries and Aquaculture including Ornamental Fishes, in collaboration with DBT, DST, CSIR, ICAR, MOEF, UGC, and MPEDA. Dr. Kar has presented papers and chaired scientific sessions in a large number of National and International Symposia, both in India and Abroad. He also has publications in many National and International journals.
