Keeping in view the risk involved and unpredictable and yet not estimates fully its damage, it becomes imperative that sufficient literature and information on Bioterrorism be available as there is still paucity of not only literature but also the interest of policy makers especially in Country like India. Hence, the present initiative of compiling invited chapters on Bioterrorism and Biological Warfare should fulfil the existing gap and provide authentic information. It will assist actions such as coping with disaster of traumatic event, Helping children and teens, information to responders, information for health professionals, information for health professions, information to states and planners and educational materials for public awareness may be developed to combat bio-terroristic events. The principles of biosurveillance are applicable to both man made- and natural epidemics. The use of agents that do not cause harm to humans but disrupt the economy such as foot and mouth disease have been witnesses in the 2001 and 2007 in the U.K. and henceforth would become more important. Clearly, there is a need to improve the ability to protect our citizens from potentials bioterror threats, and to increase our capacity to deal with the medical and public health consequences of any future attacks. The book will be significant in the existing biotechnology and microbiology undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The book might also help in generating ideas of research in hitherto-ignored important areas of the bio-threat and biosurveillance fields.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR A.L. Bhatia

Prof. Arviind Lal Bhatia has been teaching for the last 33 years and is presently Head of the Zoology Department, Coordinator of PG Course in Microbiology and Convenor, Institute of Informatics and Instrumentation of the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. He has been honoured with several national and international awards, namely, Young Investigator Awarad, ICRR, Holland; Young Scientist Award of Cambridge University; Alexander von Humboldt Award of Germany, etc. He has been nominated to the Biotechnology Advisory Board of Rajasthan and the Advisory Board of the reputed Government national magazine, Vigyan Patrika, NISCAIR, New Delhi. He has also bagged two Nnational Awards from the Rajbhasha Ayog, Government of India, for his books in Hindi. He has delivered several scientific and popular lectures in India and abroad and about a dozen students have obtained doctoral degrees under his guidance. He is on the editorial board of two research journals, and a well-known author of several textbooks. As a popular teacher, he has earned laurels from students, media and colleagues. He is espousing the cause of popularizing science among the masses.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.K. Kulshrestha

Dr. S.K. Kulshrestha taught Zoology to undergraduate and postgraduate and postgraduate students for 32 years. He retired as the Additional Director, Higher Education with the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Dr. Kulshrestha has to his credit over 60 research articles in established international journals. He has supervised three research projects on environmental and fresh water ecology. He has honour beingt a Fishery officer of Government of Tanzania, and as president of Academy of Environmental Biology. He has been honoured with fellowships of several Scientific and Academic Bodies. Presently, he is Convener, Indian science Congress Association, Bhopal Chapter and Coordinator, eco-Ethics International union of Bhopal Chapter. He has also served as Principal, Government PG Colleges, Bhopal.
