"Black Days in Andaman and Nicobar Islands" is not merely a succinct historical account of the past but a critical analysis of the changing phases that the denizens of the Islands witnessed. IT is not a compilation of stories of the Kalapani but is a unique exposition of scholarly research to establish the historical facts. The book is a telling account of sufferings and sacrifices of the islanders during the British Raj as well as the Japanese regime. Considering the islands’ existence in proximity to the littoral countries on the cross-roads of the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, the author expounds the strategic importance of the territory and denounces India’s lassitude towards the defence of the islands. The author warns us to the impending dangers that may jeopardize the peaceful life of the islanders. The reckless felling of trees, unrestricted influx of population, threats of foreign intrusion, perils of drugs and arms traffic etc., may devastate the ecology and plunder the stability of the islands. Everything in this documented and eminently readable book is fascinating, thought-provoking and scintillating.
