This book deals with the evolution of Buddhism in China and Japan. The author has tried to study the main social, political and cultural traits of Chiina and Japan which helped on alien religion ‘Buddhism’ to establish. He has looked into the political history of China. He has dealt minutely Han period, Sui and Tang period. He has also studied the evolution of different Buddhist sects in China and Japan. ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.M. Haldhar

S.M. Haldhar B.A. (Hons.) Patna College, Patna University, Bihar. M.A. Delhi University, Ph.D. History, M.D. University, Rohtak. He had taught history at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar College in 1997-98 and Saheed Bhagat Singh College (Morning) in 1998-99, University of Delhi. In the year of 2000, he was awarded senior Fellowship from ICHR, New Delhi. Right now he is affiliated to Deptt. of Buddhist Studies, University of Delhi. There he taught Spread of Buddhism outside India. He is member of Indian History congress. A dozen of his research papers have been published by national and international research journal of repute. To collect research materials he has toured Archaeological sites of Peshawar, Taxila, Harappa, Lahore, Islamabad in Pakistan, Mynamati Archaeological sites of Bangaladesh, Anuradhappur, Polonuruva, Kendy, Colombo in Srilanka, Thimpu in Bhutan and Kathmandu, Lumbini in Nepal. His research papers Archaeological evidence from Anuradhapur has been published in the 5th World Archaeological Congress, held at Washington D.C. in June 2003.
