Capital market investment in India is a prospective area, which offers abundant scope for higher returns to investors. This is all the more important considering the fact that interest on bank deposits is gradually declining. Consequently many institutional investors within the country and abroad have entered the capital market on a massive scale. At the same time, many individual investors are hesitant to stake their hard-earned money in this risky venture. The unearthing of securities scams over the years has a shattering impact on their confidence in capital market investment. The efforts on the part of regulators like SEBI to develop the market on sound lines and to make it investor friendly are yet to have a positive effect. The study made in this context aims at analyzing the investment behaviour of investors, major determinants of capital market investment, their level of perception and the major grievances relating to the investment in the capital market.
