Catalogues of mammalian specimens published by Anderson, 1881, Sclater, 1891 (Collection of Indian Museum), Agrawal and Chakraborty, 1979 (Order, Rodentia, Family, Sciuridae of ZSI, Kolkata collection) and Ghosh, 2005 and 2008 (Chiroptera: Megachiroptera and Microchiroptera of ZSI, Kolkata collection). Catalogue of the type specimens of mammals available in ZSI, Kolkata, has been compiled by Khajuria et al. (1977). The present study includes registered collection of nine mammalian orders viz., Scandentia, primates, Rodentia, Lagomorpha, Soricomorpha, Chiroptera, Pholidota, Carnivora and Artiodactyla available in National Zoological Collection of Western Regional Centre of Zoological Survey of India with all the details (Collection data, external and cranial measurements, distribution of the present taxon and taxonomic remarks). So the document signifies the importance to access the information on specimens of above mentioned groups. Arrangement of order, species follow as per Wilson and Reeder, 2005 and Pradhan and Talmale, 2012.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.S. Talmale

Dr. S. S. Talmale is presently working as Assistant Zoologist in Zoological Survey of India, Central Zone Regional Centre, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. He did his M.Sc. from Nagpur University and completed Ph.D. (Zoology) from University of Pune on the title small mammal diversity in Maharashtra State under the guidance of Dr. M. S. Pradhan. He has contributed about 40 research papers on different faunal groups and two occasional papers on Indian small mammals.
