Children are the citizen of future era. They are assets of nation. It is the duty of every society to provide conducive atmosphere for their development. But unfortunately, they are a suffering lot, subject to toilsome work without having opportunities to grow. India, is the employer of largest number of working children in the world. The problem of child labour continues to flourish in unorganized sector/household industries, therefore, it is recognized as a social evil.
Based on the findings of empirical research, the present book is an attempt to examine the different dimensions of the problem of child labour in socio legal perspectives. It provides an account of the concept, magnitude of the problem and highlights the causes for its existence. Further, a critical appraisal of the laws for eliminating child labour has been attempted. The author has discussed various judgements of the Apex Court relating to welfare of children. Besides, important judicial decisions and directions to combat the problem of child labour have also been incorporated in this book. To eradicate this practice it recommended to introduce compulsory primary education along with the other suggestions to wipe out poverty and unemployment.
