The book deals with the foreign policies of these three major countries right from 15 August, 1947 to the present. The Chapter on sino-Indian relations is long and extensive. The culture of India and China is ageless and timeless, the message of Buddha was carried by the ancient monks from the place of its birth to Tibet, to China, to Korea then on to Japan. The culture of India and China had considerable influence on the countries of South-East Asia and East Asia. The friendly relations that existed between India and China from the liberation of China in Oct. 1949, got strained when China attacked India and occupied a large chunk of Indian territory. The arguments about the disputes between India and China is dealt in Detail. Finally, the thaw that occurred between India and China in 2003, in relations between these two countries, started looking up. The chapter on Indo-Japan relations is also extensive and deals with the part played by India in the For Eastern Commission in Washington during the occupation of Japan by the Allied powers. Later Japan become free after the peace settlement in 1951, India had a low profile in the scheme of Japanese leaders for quite sometime and looked at India from the prism of Indo-Pak equations. The book concludes with the chapter on findings of the research. The strained relations between India and China between 1950 to 1989 and the worry some relations between India and Pakistan was a chain and a ball on the feet of India and because of the recent normalizations of relations between these two neighbours, India was freed and wit its energy, now India can freely deal wit the world and its neighbours without any fetters.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Mallappa Amaravati

Dr. Mallappa Amaravati received his Ph.D. Degree from School of International Studies, JNU, New Dlhi and M.A. from Delhi University, Delhi and he was a visiting Scholar at Tokyo University in Japan and at East Asian Institute, Coloumbia University, New York, in US. He has taught in Six Universities as visiting Professor in US. After his return from US in 1969 he was appointed as a reader in the Department of Political Science in Karnataka University, Dharwad. He became a Professor of Political Science in Gulbarga University in 1986 and retired as its Head in the 1992. He has contributed a number of articles to international Journals and Published quiet a number of articles in Indian Political Science Journal. He is now retired and divots his time to reading and research. After retirement Dr. Amaravati was sanctioned a major research project entitled “Triangular Politics in emerging Asia”. Than After the completions of project the ICSSR, New Delhi sanctioned another project entitled “SAARC and Indo-Pakistan” relations which have been completed and are being published
