ABOUT THE AUTHOR Shyam Singh

Born on 2nd July 1946 at Saharanpur (U.P.), obtained his Ph.D. degree in horticulture from Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur, Rajasthan. Fakhruddin Ali Ahemd laureate, Dr. Shyam Singh is presently working as Director, National Research Centre for Citrus, (ICAR), Nagpur. Earlier served as the Head, Division of Horticulture and Plantation crops at CARI, Port Blair and Director of Agriculture, A&N Islands, Port Blair and 17 years as pioneer Horticulturist in tribal areas of Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Andman & Nicobar Islands. His research accomplishments spanning over 30 years encompass development of useful agro-techniques in fruits, vegetables, plantation, spices and ornamental crops. Besides these distinctions has a vast experience of research, extension, teaching and administration, which owe him a high profile Horticulturist of eminence. He has 334 publications to his credit which include research papers, articles, books, technical bulletins, extension folders, extension bulletins besides 428 press coverage, 108 training programmes and 75 radio talks. Recently, Dr. Shyam Singh was honoured with the National Magnum Honour Award-1999 under the category DESH MITRA SANMAN PARITOSHIK for special contributions in the development of Indian Horticulture, FERTILIZER ASSOCIATION OF INDIA SILVER JUBILEE AWARD-2000 for outstanding contribution in the field of Fertiliser Management and NETAJI SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE-NATIONAL AWARD-2001, for excellence and contribution in Indian Horticulture.
