ABOUT THE AUTHOR B S Bisht

Dr. B.S. Bisht (1st May, 1956) did his M.A. (Sociology) in 1977 from the univeristy of Mumaun. At first he joined as lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Kumaun University, Nainital on 14th April, 1978. Since then Dr. Bisht is actively engaged in the studies of the Tribes and Backward Communities of the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. Dr. Bisht specialized in the study of Tribes and Backward Communities. Other than the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Letters he has completed two major research projects sponsored by ICSSR, New Delhi, and one minor research project sponsored by UGC, New Delhi, on the tribes and backward communities of Himalayan region of Uttarakhand in U.P., So far Dr. Bisht has studied all the five Scheduled Tribe Communities and two Backward Communities of Uttarakhand region. Dr.Bisht has organized three National Seminars and one conference on the different aspects of the tribes and backward communites. Publications of Dr. Bisht in the filed of Tribes and Backward Communities includes Uttarakhand ki Bhotiya Janjati; Raji: A tribe of Indo-Nepal Border of Uttarakhand; Tribes of India, Nepal, Tibet Borderland and Uttaranchal: Gramin Samudaya; Picharhi jati avam janjatiya Paridrashya. Dr. Bisht has contributed more than fifty research papers in the different reserach journals, edited volumes and News papers. He has also presented about twenty research papers in National/International Seminars/ Conferences. At present Dr. Bisth is Reader in Post Graduate Department of Sociology, Govt. M.B.P.C. College, Haldwani Nainital, (U.P.)
