Communalism, in Modern India, emerged in the backdrop of colonialism. Multi-religious, cultural and linguistic society became the bedrock for the communal politics. This book based on archival sources and contemporary vernacular periodicals traces the roots of communal politics from the late nineteenth century when religious identities were being constructed and institutionalized in the backdrop of colonial challenges. This process just not happened in socio cultural domain but also in political realm where political institutions were used as leverage to enhance specific community interests.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jagdish Kumar

Jagdish Kumar is currently a management consultant. After a meritorious career in the Army (from which he took voluntary retirement in 1972), he opted for the management discipline, in order to effectively use his experience and abilities. He worked for industry for over 10 years and has been practicing management consultancy over the last 20 years. His areas of expertise are conducting organizational development surveys in industry and academic institutions and subsequent follow up in implementation of organizational changes as desired by the managements; conducting management development programmes; conceptualizing unique new training programmes; formulation of personnel policies. He has worked in, or served as a consultant for Delhi Cloth and General Mills Ltd., Thermax, the Poonawalla Group, Electronica Group, NIIT, K.K. Nag, besides many other including prestigious assignments with Multi – nationals. He is the author of these books: Ancient Wisdom and Modern Management; How to Create a Winning Organisation; How to Manage Your Personal Finances.
