The advent of optical communication as a primary source of information exchange is one of the biggest events of recent years. As the growth of internet users are extending exponentially the bandwidth requirement and data speed are forcing the optical technology to make amazing advances. In that amplification of the signal in optical domain could not make pace with eh requirements as electro optic and all optical integration require the compact devices on the pattern of VLSI. The author has attempted to encompass in this book all the optical amplifiers ranging from macro to micro in dimension to give wide choice to design engineers.
The present publication concept of optical Amplifier is divided into six chapters. First chapter Physics of Optical Amplifiers deals with the basic principles of optical amplification especially the stimulated emission of radiation principle.
Second chapter Optical Amplifiers in Optical Communication : A Review is the survey of all the existing technologies of optical amplifiers in long distance communication.
Third chapter deals with Noise and disturbances in optical amplification that may degrade signal to noise ratio.
Fourth chapter is the design of optical Amplifiers for Metro and access application.
Fifth chapter Integrated Optical Amplifiers focuses on the need of 40 Gb/S system.
Chapter six takes up Fabrication of a Novel Integrated Amplifier : optical microring Amplifier. Finally a novel microring amplification technique is proposed discussed and analysed.
The book in useful to the students researchers and scientists working in the area of optical amplification.
