To bring quality improvement in the life of the poor consisting of small farmers, marginal farmers, rural artisans etc., Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP) was Chosen. The present book analyses the role of cooperatives in financing IRDP scheme, economic impact of IRDP on the rural poor and the main problem and prospects in effective implementation of Integrated Rural Development Programme. The present study is the outcome of the findings of micro-level field study. Beneficiaries who received financial assistance under IRDP were interviewed with the help of a well designed questionnaire. A thought provoking discussions were held with the staff members of the DRDA/BDO and Cooperative Credit Societies/Commercial Banks including RRBs to find out measures for effective implementation of IRD schemes and increasing the share of cooperatives under IRDP. The book also gives a deeper insight in regard to various facets of IRDP. It serves a better cause for those who are directly or indirectly involved in IRDP.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Rais Ahmad

Dr. Rais Ahmad (b. 1958) took his post graduation in 1987, M.Phil in 1989 and Ph.D. in 1990 in Commerce from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. He had taught commerce in A.M.U., Aligarh before joining as lecturer in Agricultural Econ, and Business Management at Institute of Agriculture (A.M.U.). He is life member of All India Accounting Association. His major areas of research interests are management of agricultural cooperatives, Rural banking, accounting and finance. He has published several research papers and articles in reputed journals in addition to the book "Cooperatives and Integrated Rural Development" already published by Mittal Publications.
