Ethnicity and Identity: India and Canada is a collection of the papers presented in a 3-Day National Seminar organized by the Centre for Canadian Studies, Kannur University in March 2007 with financial assistance from the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, New Delhi, under the Canadian Studies development programme. Scholars from various disciplines like Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Development Studies, Literature and Comparative Studies have accepted our invitation and presented papers. Most of them have revised their papers to the current version and a few articles are invited from eminent scholars to enrich the volume. We believe the essays included in this volume on the theory and praxis of ethnicity and identity in multicultural societies and its multifarious ramifications in the globalised world are relevant and useful to scholars pursuing study and research with an interdisciplinary perspective.
