The book traces, analyses and examines the origin, justification and principles of copyright in common law systems. Reference has also been made to civil law system at relevant points. The protection of copyright under international law has been given a detailed treatment and an analysis of international copyright convention has been presented. The issue of subjects of copyright has been examined at length and the differences between the common law system and civil law traditions have been clearly brought out. The book has presented a critical examination of such vital areas of copyright which have recently been influenced due to fast developing technology and where the legislative activity has been quite recent. Thus the issues of copyright in literary, dramatic and musical works, copyright in computer software, copyright in architectural design, copyright in performances and neighbouring rights of producers of phonograms, broadcasting organisations and satellite transmission have been discussed in great details. The questions of infringement of copyright and remedies available under copyright law have been examined at length. The issue of future challenges to copyright has received special attention. The books makes a comparative assessment of copyright law in United Kingdom, United States of America and India. It is hoped that the book will be of immense use and help to lawyers, judges, teachers, researchers and students.
