Critical Responses to Indian Writing in English is very humble endeavour to present Indian critical responses to Indian poetry, prose fiction, drama and autobiography. The contributors are from various Indian Universities. They have enriched this book with their research findings. Indian poets like Kamala Das, Nissim Ezekiel, A.K. Ramanujan, Arun Kolatkar, A.C. Mukerji, Subramanya Bharathi have been taken for analysis by seven Indianists. Indian novelists like R.K. Narayan, Arjun Joshi, Shoba De, Jyothirmoyee Devi, Shashi Deshpande, Githa Hariharan, Amir Chaudhury have been researched by 8 Indianists. Indian prose writers like Sri Aurobindo and Swami Vivekananda have been studied by two Indianists. Indian dramatists like Tagore and Vijay Tendulkar have been dealt with by two contributors. Indian autobiographers like APJ Abdul Kalam and Kamala Das have been preferred by two academics. Two general surveys (one on Indo-Anglian poetry and another on Indo-Anglian fiction) have been done by two contributors. The twenty-three critical essays highlight different aspects of Indian life and literature in English in simple and understandable style which is a veritable literary feast to the students, researchers and teachers of Indian writing in English.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR K Balachandran
Dr. K. Balachandran (b. 1951) Prof., Dept. Of English, Anamalai University, Anamalai Nagar- 608 002 (Tamilnadu), a bilingual writer has published a number of poems, research articles and reviews in India and abroad. His first book was in Tamil Annai Oru Agal Vilakku (1974). His poetry anthology For a Future & Heart's Chair (1988, 1995) IN THE WORDS OF THE LATE Sri K.R. Srinivasa Iyenger, œreveal a lively sensibility and fair command over the so called alien language. Edited the poems of an American Poetess, Dr. Rosemary C. Wilkinson in Longing for You (1988), Translated Dr. Narendrapal Singh’s award winning Punjabi novel Ba Mulahiza Hoshiar from English to Tamil, Oru Puthiya Kathai (1995) PUBLISHED BY Sahitya Akademi. National Book Trust published his Tamil translation of Ruskin Bond's novel The Adventures of Rusty as Rushthiyin Veera Theerangal (1995). He edited Essays on Conadian Literature (2001), publilshed by Prakash Book Depot, Bareilly. A Gold Medallist from Annamalai University, he was awarded Special Prize in the Students’ One Act Play writing competition in Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi (1974). Received International Poet of Merit Award, Washington DC (1995), Michael Madhusudan Academy Award Calcutta (1997) for his poetry Anthology. His interests are: Indian Writing in English, American Literature, Canadian Literature, British Literature, Commonwealth Literature, Translation and Criticism.
