When plants of the same kind are grown and cultivated at one place on a large scale, it is called a crop. For example, crop of wheat means that all the plants grown in a field are that of wheat. Crops are of different types like cereals, vegetables and fruits. These can be classified on the basis of the season in which they grow.

Cultivation of crops involves several activities undertaken by farmer over a period of time. These activities or tasks are referred to as agricultural practices and they are: Preparation of soil, adding manure and fertilizers, irrigation, protecting from weeds, harvesting and storage. Effective management of all these practices is necessary for sustainable crop production.

The principles and practices of sustainable crop management is covered in this book. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Shagufta

Shagufta, Faculty, P.G. Department of Biotechnology, A.N. College, Patna Magadh University, is m.Sc. in Zoology and Environment (IIEE, New Delhi). She isd a dedicated teacher and an outstanding researcher. She has benn a recipient of special State Merit Scholarship throughtout her college and university years. The author has completed her Ph.D. research work on 'Seasonal Fluctuation in Blood Glucose and Glycogen and their Hormonal Regulation with reference to Male and Female Immature, Mature and Senile, Common Indian Fowl, Gallus Gallus'. She has authored twelve books and her ten research papers published in verious reputed journals and books. She has attended and presented papers International and National Conferences and Seminars on environment. She is the member of environment wing, Confederation of Indian Graduates (CIG).
