The book is a collection of my articles on current Indian writing in English, published from time to time in the leading journals of the country. It is mainly the poets who have been treated critically, save Raja Rao whose ‘The Serpent and the Rope’ has been critically examined in a twain of articles. My articles, related to topics other than current Indian Poetry in English, have also been included because of their intrinsic worth. I confess I hold writings, formally belonging to critical variety, also creative inasmuch as critical writing is creative in its own way. Again, four articles on my own poetry in English, written by different scholars, have also been included : obviously, I could not have written on my own poetry myself. No uniformity has been maintained in the naming of the chapters; the titles with which these articles were published in the journals originally have been preserved. The learned readers will please bear with me in this regard.
