ABOUT THE AUTHOR Vidya Bhushan Rawat

Vidya Bhushan Rawat is a well-known social activist, author, free-lance journalist and documentary filmmaker. He has been relentlessly working among tribals and Dalits in Uttar Pradesh and Uttranchal for more than a decade and has been associated with prominent human rights organizations including the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) and FIAN International. He heads Social Development Foundation, an NGO that has been involved in grass-root level work among Dalits and tribals. His main work has been generating information and enabling people fight for their land rights. Through land literacy movements undertaken by the SDF he has been able in strengthening people’s movements in different parts of Uttar Pradesh. His published works include Press and Prejudice: an insightful analysis of Hindi media (Institute of Objective Studies, New Delhi) and Sanjhi Sanskriti Sanjhi Virasat (Books for Change, New Delhi).
