We ventured to write the present book only to help students in the discipline of journalism. When we were students of journalism, we were facing a difficult task of procuring books on development journalism written by Indian authors. The role of newspapers is increasingly becoming important with the growth of multi-editions of newspapers and satellite channels, and India as a developing country is at crossroads in the arena of development facing multiple problems like rural-urban divide and others.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR D V R Murthy
Dr. D.V.R. Murthy is working as assistant professor (senior) in the department of journalism and mass communication, Andhra University for ore than a decade. Prior to joining the present position, Dr. Murthy worked in Hydrerabad-based Deccan Chronicle as a journalist for five years. He obtained Ph.D. degree in journalism and mass communication from Andhra University for the thesis, "Development Journalism and the Indian Press: A content-Analytic Study of Select Newspapers". He published three books, Contemporary Press (2004), Mass Communication: Concepts and Issues (2002). Dr. Murthy also published articles in international and national journals. He visited London on Charles Wallace fellowship to study the British Press.
