The present publication has been prepared by following the syllabus of the subject prescribed by the several universities. It is a survey of the development of education in India from ancient period. It proceeds in a sequence taking into account of the various socio-political factors that shaped modern education in India.
The presentation of various topics in this book has been made learner centered and examination oriented. Many of the topics are discussed in such a way to make it authentic and academically sound.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Brijkishore Dayal
Brijkishore Dayal has been associated with 'Swayam', a leading NGO that undertakes educational programmes for the poorest sections in urban areas. He has a Master's degree in Education and worked as Senior Teacher, Headmaster and Vice-Principal for more than thirty years in reputed schools and institutes in Delhi, Shillong, chennai, Calcutta and Dhaka. He has also been on the panel of consultants for the formulation and preparatory work on the Nationa Policy on Education. He has co-authored three books on curriculum planning, educational administration and educational reform.
