Fish is considered to be the internationally traded primary commodity and fisheries sector occupies a very important place in the socio-economic development of the many developed and developing countries in the world. In India, fisheries sector contributes Rs. 19,355 crores to National Income, which is 14 per cent of the total Gross Domestic Product. The Mechanised crafts not only cover the distant area, but also give higher economic returns to the industry and greater safety to the fishermen. The problem of fish catch getting spoiled is not faced by the mechanized crafts. Mechanisation of fishing craft has resulted in the conflict of interest between the traditional craft owners and the mechanised craft owners. To resolve such conflicts it is necessary to understand the nature of mechanisation and its possible impact on fishermen community. The present study analyse the impact of mechanisation on fishermen community with special reference to Andhra Pradesh. This book is very much useful for planners, researchers and administrators in formulating policies and programmes and it is a must for every library in India particularly for fisheries institutions as well as agricultural universities.
