Narayan Chandra Bandopadhyaya’s Development of Hindu Polity and Political Theories was able to draw attention of the scholars all over the world immediately after its publication in two parts during the thirties, not only because of vast mass of data collected in it, but also because of their wonderful arrangement in a way as to convey to the readers a clear impression of the ancient Indian political theories and institutions, various forms of administrative machinery, social and religious norms and details of economic set-up in a purely historical perspective. The present edition, in which the two pasts are presented in a single volume, has been edited by the well known Indologist Dr. N.N. Bhattacharyya. Apart from a general revision, the present volume contains transcription of the Devanagari quotations into Roman so that they may become accessible to all.
