Starting from the basics of Boolean Algebra and digital circuit design using gates and flip-flops, this text familiarises the reader with the basic concepts of microprocessors and microprocessor-based systems. The initial chapters deal with the design of combinatorial and sequential circuits summarizing briefly, the relevant techniques for such designs. The later chapters of the text deal with CPU architecture, microcomputer organization, I/O techniques, interrupts and analog interfacing. The book discusses in detail Intel’s 8085A and 8086/8088 CPUs and the Zilog Z-80 CPU. It also presents a detailed description of some single-chip microcomputers. Various commonly used LSI peripheral support devices are also discussed extensively throughout the text.
