Dire need of dictionary was being felt in the field of ayurveda particularly in specialised subjects. In past some attempts were made to prepare dictionary of medicinal plants still a comprehensive dictionary of Dravyaguna dealing with dravyas (drugs and dietary substances) and their properties and actions remained a challenging job. This work is a humble attempt to fulfil this task. The present book has two kandas (sections). In the first Kanda, names and synonyms of the medicinal plants have been arranged alphabetically with the following informations- Reference of the textual source, Meaning of the word, Etynological Derivation, Commentator’s view, Hindi and other regional names, English and Latin Names. Words have been collected from all the available sources-samitas, nighantus and texts of medicine including rasasastra thus making it as comprehensive as possible. It also contains items from the Sahasrayogam which is popular in South India. In the second kanda, terms denoting properties and actions have been given with their meaning and etymological derivation. The book will be useful to students, teachers, writers and research scientists working on medicinal plants.
