The present book is an effort to focus on the present and future prospects of the dyeing printing and textile industry. Since, India is one of the largest producers of the textiles, the small scale industries like dyeing and printing serve as seedbeds of entrepreneurship. This industry, being labour intensive, has significantly contributed to the development of particularly the semi arid tract. Where agriculture is not the main source of earning due to the scarcity of water. This industry has provided employment to the people in a large number. An attempt has been made to the major changes observed in this traditional industry and the factors governing its localization. The behaviour of the firms have been analysed in order to evaluate the socio-economic impact of this industry is leaving on the local society. At the same time, the problems of pollution caused by dyeing and printing industries like the discharge of contaminated water etc. have also been taken into consideration for evolving the remedies to develop an environmentally balanced industrial complex. The thrust of the whole endeavour is to lay emphasis on the structure, quality, production processes, production, marketing, development and related problems of dyeing printing and textile industry.

M.K. Khandewal, Head Department of Geography, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur in a specialist in Livestock and Dairy Development, integrated Rural Are development, Urban Geography and Research methodology. He has published a number of research papers and books. He supervised many Ph.D. Thesis, conducted Several Research project Successfully and edited Changing Contours of Arid Ecology, Rasasthan University Studies in Geography, Arid Ecology-Resources, Hazards and Rural Development Policies. He has attended and organized many academic conferences, oriental and refresher courses. He is a life member of national and international academic committees, societies viz. Asian Environmental Council National Association of Geographer5s India, Indian Institute of Geomorphologist, Geographical Society of India, Institute of Indian Geographers, Rajasthan Geographers Association.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR M.L. Chauhan

Dr. M.L. Chauhan, Head of the Post Graduate Department of Geography, Dungar College, Bikaner was born on 15 September, 1952. A highly perceptive scholar and popular teacher Dr. Chauhan has had a brilliant academic career. Having passed all his school and college examinations with first division, he won the Gold Medal for Securing highest marks in his M.A. Dr. M.L. Chauhan joined government service as a lecturer in Geography on 24.9.1973 and since then, he has been successfully dealing with academic as well as administrative matters with astonishing ease and ability. He has a substantial scholarly work to his credit.
