The main aim of the present work is to prepare a base of available information by bringing together the scattered knowledge, so that further studies can be planned. Under the species, the original references, references of reports from Indian coast and references of detailed synonymy, distribution, revision etc., are given. The Indian Seacoast with its differing ecological habitats supports a large diversity of Echinoderms 640 species. With information on 644 species, an attempt has been made to compare taxonomic distinctness diversity amongst different regions and habitats.  The partial bibliography gives references with further details of synonymy, description and distributional range outside the Indian region.
