Economic Reforms for the Poor

The book is a collection of essays written by well-known practitioners in their respective fields. Each author has tried to take a fresh look at the liberalisation and globalisation process in India. The objective was to evolve a strategy that will make the reform process bring immediate benefit, wherever possible to the vast numbers of the poor population. The book is not meant to be the final word in the formulation of desirable policies. Instead it highlights some of the major problems that need to be solved and suggests methodologies for addressing them. The book should encourage constructive debate and discussion on these problems. The essays cover a wide range of topics, from poverty alleviation policies to those concerning financial markets. There is, however a common theme in all the different contributions–how to give the reforms a human face. Each of the contributory chapters in the book is derived from the experiences and research done by the contributors. The book should act as a forum for bringing together people who share concerns similar to those of the authors.
