Farming system is a resource management strategy to achieve economic and sustained production to meet diverse requirement to farm household while presenting resources bare and maintaining a high level environmental quality. The simple tool to assess the costs and returns of the crops is cost cultivation by using various cost concepts.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ram Singh
Ram Singh is Professor of Entomology at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, India. He did his Ph.D. from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, in 1985. He was awarded the European Commission Post-doctoral Fellowship (1991-1992) and FAO Postdoctoral Training Fellowship (1998) when he worked on various aspects of insect-plant interactions at the Horticulture Research International, Wellesbourne, United Kingdom. A Fellow of the royal Entomological Society, London, he is the recipient of University Gold Medal and Aspee Gold Medal, from HAU, Hisar. He has published more than 90 papers in national and international journals of Scientific repute, and presented his work at several international conferences in India, Netherlands, Scotland and United Kingdom.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S M Feroze
S.M. Feroze is Assistant Professor of Economics, School of Social Sciences, Colleges of Post-graduate Studies, (Central Agricultural University) Umiam, Meghalaya. He received his Ph.D. degree in Dairy Economics from National Dairy Research Institute (Deemed University), Karnal, Haryana in 2009. He successfully completed a research project on rice-based farming in North-East India funded by International Fund for Agricultural Development.
