ABOUT THE AUTHOR R.G. Desai

Dr. R.G. Desai started his career as Lecturer in Economics in 1975 and at present he is a Professor and Head, Department of Economics, Bangalore University, Bangalore. He has been actively involved in teaching, research and consultancy. He has completed five research projects sponsored by ICSSR, UGC, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India and K.K. Birla Foundation, New Delhi. He has published five books and twenty two research articles in a number of journals, presented research papers in various National and International seminars. He is a recipient of Gold Medal on Economic Research conferred by the Seminal Research Center, Hydeabad (1997). Dr. R.G. Desai, an Awardee of National Fellowship in Economics of K.K. Birla Foundation, New Delhi during 2003-04 has completed the work on “Economics of Information Technology – A Study of Leading States in India” at the Institute of Social and Economic Change Bangalore as a visiting fellow. He has represented Bangalore University in the International Conference held at New Delhi in Jan 2004, where Nobel Economist A.K. Sen had addressed the Delegates. He is a nominated member of the Regional Direct Taxes Advisory Committee Bangalore and a Life Member of Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, Indian Society of Labour Economics and Indian Economic Association.
