India is poised to become a major economy of the world in the near future. HR Magazine, a SHRM publication of USA in its cover story for the month of September 06 says, “in the hottest sectors of India’s booming economy, HR concerns are key business issues and good human capital management is a business necessityâ€. Business enterprises are facing stiff internal competition, apart from putting up with acute shortage of qualified and employable people. It is obvious that ‘education’ is the root cause and the key issue. Thanks to the budget proposals of 2007-2008, education cess stands increased to 3% to net Rs.5500 crores exclusively for the secondary and higher education. But considering the magnitude of the education sector in our country, a lot is still required to be done if we have to compare favorably even with much smaller countries in this aspect. ‘Quality Education’ is the need of the hour.
