ABOUT THE AUTHOR Popinder Singh Kular

Dr. Popinder Singh Kular, reader in education, faculty of education, jamia Millia Islamia, was born on 15.08.1947 in the hockey loving Kular family in Sansarpur (Jalahndhar). He was brought up in an atmosphere, where hochey was not only a passion but a way of life. His father Subedar Gajjan Singh Kular played against Wizard Dhyan Chand in Army tournaments and his elder brother Coloinel Balbir Singh Kular Arjuna Awardee, VSM, represented India in hockey Olympics (1968). He himself represented Indian universities: as a player (1970), as a Coach (1985), as a manager (1989, 90 & 93). He has also represented Punjab university in (1968, 69 & 71) and was the first Captain of GNDU, Amritsar, in 1970. After completing his graduation from Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar and later joined P.U., Chandigarh, Chandigarh fro where he obtained the degree in M.A. (Physical education). He got his first appointment in J.M.I. as Director of Physical Education. He has a rich experience of Organising hockey tournaments and has organised six hockey tournaments (1970-76) in his native village Sansarpur. In 1980 he joined faculty of education, J.M.I. as a Lecturer where he is now serving as a senior Reader in education. He has developed several innovative games for students of B.Ed. and Diploma in Elementary teacher education. In addition to the present book, which is based on his Ph.D. work, he has published several articles in new papers/magazines/ research journals which has been highly acclaimed. Several T.V. channels have interviewed him on issues related to hockey and Sansarpur for their sports programmes. His name has also been included in marquis who’s who in the world (2005), 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st century (IBC).
