This book attempts to study the situation of a cross-section of elderly women in a fast changing urban neighbourhood, with special reference to Delhi. Examining the demographic status and socio-economic background of aged women, it ascertains the level of social adjustment among them, and takes stock their health status in relation to their adjustment in the family and neighbourhood. Further examining the linkage between their social adjustment and their acceptance by family and neighbourhood, the book also analyses social adjustment among aged women in terms of their sense of security. The relation between social adjustment and life satisfaction among them has been found out as well.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Archana Kaushik Panda

Archana Kaushik Panda, a faculty in Social Work, University of Delhi, earned her Ph.D. from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Her professional interests are many and varied, including gerontology, women, children, HIV/AIDS and Panchayati Raj. Dr. panda has participated in a good number of seminars and conferences, and has published several research papers and articles in journals as well as newspapers of repute. She has contributed to the development and upgradation of course material on ‘Rural Development and Social Work’ for Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi.
