Elementary Education and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan provides a wide convergent framework for implementing education schemes with the objectives of achieving educational attainment, general awareness and professional competence. To fulfill the objective of Universal Elementary Education by 2010, recently its focus has shifted from access and infrastructure at the primary level to enhancing retention, improving quality of learning and ensuring access to upper primary classes. Despite numerous central and State Govt. efforts, Govt. Schools lack basic infrastructure, quality instructions and dedication among teaching staff. It becomes imperative to implement the scheme in its true spirit, synergising it with R and D and exercising rigorous control to meet the growing societal aspirations.
