The present publication is an outcome of a national workshop on "Emerging Partnership on Rural Development Initiative" organized by Gandhigram Rural Institute, which was able to crystallize the critical issues and challenges that confront rural development and evolve a strategy for convergence of local institutions in the context of changing economic and social scenario. Further more the imperatives of globalization, liberalization and concomitant structural adjustment necessitates formulation of such networking strategies as would not only counter the negative effects of emerging phenomena but also help to build a sustainable society. The publication is grouped under the following sub themes: Emerging network among development agencies in rural development. Partnership between banks, SHGs, PRIs and government. Development partnership for micro level planning. Innovative experiments in rural development–collaborative approach The book brings out the existing partnership and functional relationship among government, NGOs, bureaucracy and CBOs in rural development initiatives and includes several innovative initiatives taken by them and how their strategic alliance and partnership in India has resulted in success that can be replicated and multiplied. This book is an important addition to the growing literature on this subject of crucial importance.
