Offering an overview of the emerging trends in Indo-Latin American relations, the book is an outcome of an international conference organised by the Centre for Latin American Studies of Goa University in March 1997 with funding provided by the Government of India’s Ministry of External Affairs. Participants at the Conference included the Heads of Missions of Latin American and Caribbean countries in India, officials of the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Government of Goa as well as academics, research scholars and scientists of India and the members of the business community and representatives of the chambers of commerce. Excerpts of the formal presentations made and a brief summary of the discussions that took place in the different sessions of the conference are published in this compendium in the hope that it would serve as both primary and secondary source of material for the business community, policy-making bodies and scholars engaged in their endeavour to forge meaningful and purposive relations between India and the Latin America-Caribbean region.
