Over the past thirty years the number of women assuming leadership roles has grown dramatically. This book identifies the challenges faced by women in positions of leadership and their counterpart who live in the rural areas of Afro-Asian countries. Taking a close look at the models of women leadership, it examines their influences on leadership style and agendas, as well as the diversity of theoretical and ethnic perspectives of women leaders.
Explaining the reality of women empowerment, it also deals with the strategies of women leaders, challenges faced by them, the role of Self- Help Groups in the economic empowerment of rural women, government policies and programmes for economic empowerment of rural women, formulation of gender sensitive policies in Ghana, women’s rights and empowerment in Sudan, and the contribution of Sudanese women leaders towards the promotion of women empowerment.
