Empowerment is process focused on the capacity building of the people to initiate, sustain and own the development by the people. In this process, people are enabled to have access, participate and control decision of various aspects/activities of welfare as well as development programmes. In our country, both government and non-governmental efforts in recent time are aimed at increasing the "power resource" of the people for their sustainable development. The process of empowerment includes enhancement of economic, political, social and psychological capabilities of the people for the sustainable development. The present volume is a documentation of perspectives, reviews, research findings and experience related to the empowerment strategy that has influenced the socio-economic, political and psychological capabilities of the people. The articles are contributed by the academics, social scientists, social workers and development consultants.

R. Venkata Ravi, M.A. Ph. D. is working as Associate Follow in the RBI Chair at the Council for Social Development, Southern Regional Office, Hyderabad, India. He is a Development Researcher with specialization in the Rural Development. He has published about 15 papers on various aspects of the Rural Development in reputed National and International journals. As Project Officer and Consultant, he has associated with the State Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil.

V. Narayana Reddy, Ph.D. is Associate Fellow in Department of Anthropology, Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. Being specialized in Anthropology of Religion he has contributed good number of research papers in National and International Journals on this specialized subject. His main research interest focused on issues related to Sacred Complex and Culture, Social Gerontology, and theories in anthropology. He co-edited a book on people’s empowerment. In his academic career he has executed four policy-linked major research projects focused on community development, which are supported by UNDP, ISRO, UGC and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
