Islam is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion originating with the teachings of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, a seventh century Arab religious and political figure. The word Islam means "submission", or the total surrender of oneself to God i.e. Allah. An organization is a social arrangement which pursues collective goals, which controls its own performance, and which has a boundary separating it from its environment. In the social sciences, organizations are studied by researchers from several disciplines, the most common of which are sociology, economics, political science, psychology, management, and organizational communication. The broad area is commonly referred to as organizational studies, organizational behavior or organization analysis. Islamic activist organizations includes Islamic organizations that promote social goals for Muslims including combating Islamophobia, informing Muslims of threats to the Muslim community, promotion of interfaith dialog, promoting Muslim candidates for public office, and networking with Non-Muslim organizations with allied goals. Similarly, Islamist movements seek to implement a conservative formulation of Islamic law and remove Western influences from Muslim society. Islamists usually refer to themselves as Muslims, disapproving of the term Islamist. The movements are sometimes controversial among other Muslims due to their anti-government and sometimes violent activity. This publication titled "Encyclopaedia of Islamic Organizations" presents readers with details of various kinds of Islamic organizations, their structure, functions and areas of operation.
