The present volume contains a selected bunch of the papers presented in the National Seminar on ‘English Studies in India Today: Problems and Prospects’ organized by Government Postgraduate College, Jind (Haryana) in collaboration with Indian Association for English Studies, University, Grants Commission and Department of Higher Education, Haryana on 27-29 September, 2002. While the main purpose of the book is to take stock of the prevailing scenario of English studies in India, some of the papers seek to look at the issue from the perspectives of past and future as well. Students and teachers of English as a second language as well as course designers, language planners and researchers will be benefited from the findings reported in these papers.
