The concept of sustainable development has been defined as a kind of development that meets the needs of the future generations to meet their own needs. The paradigm of sustainable development is an outcome of the concept of developmentalism and environmentalism. Population explosion, rapid industrialization and exploitation of natural resources is resulting into ecological imbalance, scarcity of resources, pollution and many such problems. This ecological crisis and fight for the acquisition of powerful resources give rise to environmental conflict. Today this conflict and crisis has become not only a threat but also a matter of global concern. Even development becomes a threat if it is no sustainable. The concept of sustainable development advocates a balance between demand and supply of resources. United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) declared that human beings are at the center of concerns for sustainable development, its ultimate goal being human welfare.
