Environmental Degradation and its Impact on Biodiversity

The volume presents research papers and articles that approach the problem of environmental degradation taking into consideration social and religious values associated with environmental conservation, and assess the impact of environmental degradation on biodiversity. They offer a number of specific studies referring to plant and animal species to throw light on impact of pollutants on them and ways to conserve them. With special reference to the North-east region, especially Assam, they deal with pattern of biodiversity in wetlands and biodiversity of fishes, medicinal plants and their uses, and role of ethical values in conserving biodiversity. They examine use of specific measures and strategies to check environmental degradation and species damage, from use of indigenous technical knowledge for management of rice pests to use of remote sensing and GIS technologies for bamboo disease monitoring and management.
